Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a mixture of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish and 2016 saw four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 In 2020, there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages of Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). Reggaeton's mainstreaming was a concern for some performers during the year the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, were keen to keep the look. Rauw Alejandro incorporated elements of other styles and electronic music.
